What you felt
you wished other understood
but without exposure
no one ever could

Though a hand barely flew
the words swarmed like bees
thousands of painful sticks to the heart
a slap to the face made you feel at ease

At times you felt deserving
other times only shock
taking turns with wood and word
it would have been easier with a rock

The edge is there
signs point to the easy way down
the pain to end with one swift blow
or take a deep breath and drown

Fireworks fly high
bright as the day time sun
a warning flare sent for all to see
not one person came at a run

He’s your father
he love you, you know
this is how he shows his love
you take it and go

Nothing is ever good enough
although you try so hard
even though you’re older now
it feels like a joker card

A few sparse moments you remember
a time way back when
on a road trip away from trouble
you were his “pardner” back then

That woman he’s with
what a wicked web she weaves
tearing and tormenting
until you finally chose to leave

That is gone
it’s in the by and by
every day you recover more
with each and every tear you cry

You wish no ill
on those who torment you
although forgiveness is hard
I think you’ll see it through

This life is your own
it will be what you want it to be
the doors to happiness stand before you
and you have the key

Although it’s not over
there is much to work through
you are feeling better about yourself
you know what you have to do

Don’t sit back and hide
let your voice be heard
what the past is about
is summed up in a few words

What is done is done
they can go and get the hell on
take the challenges in your life
and meet them head on

A husband and children
a couple of them I think
they’re waiting on someone like you
you are their missing link

Your hopes and dreams
they may be surrounded by thorns
people deserve to experience you
grab life by the horns

You life for your husband
you live for your kids
their life is nothing without you
you have so much to give

When the world gets you down
and you’ve given all you can
when the load seems too much to carry
and you feel you’re short of fans

You have your best friends
my family and yours
if you ever need anything
well, talk to me of course

They come in low and hard
dragging the icy north wind
those heavy grey clouds floating over
the long cold winter to begin

Autumn is at an end
and the temperatures are falling fast
time now to hunker down
and prepare for the winter blast

Sitting by the fire one night
those crystal flakes start to fall
asleep or sheltered are the animals now
til warmer weather calls

Through the season the snow piles high
over the vast peaks and trees
river waters stand almost still
under the spell of the deep winter freeze

Avalanches consume steep mountain sides
ripping trees out by their roots
Streets and sidewalks diligently being cleared
by those in their warmest suits

Until that final snow falls
sometime in the spring
we make the best of every day
until the returning birds begin to sing

How do you keep flying
when your wings are scarred and torn
when the foundation of your world
has been ripped from beneath your feet

How do you continue to run any farther
when your legs are beyond repair
when the goal is out of sight
and seems a thousand miles away

How do you persevere
when your being refuses to acquiesce
your heart seeping its vitality
slowly losing its grasp on life

How do you remain vigilant
when your quintessence fades away
when the burden you bare is just too heavy
to carry on any further

How do you survive when your soul is broken?

Your mother’s love
your daddy’s pride and joy
from your very first black and white

God’s gift to us
your forever grateful parents
I only hope we can be to you what you are to us

You are hope
you are blessing
your life will be everything you need

You came here to us
we will always be here for you
never fear, never hesitate, never hide, never lose faith

Your blood is in our veins
and ours in yours
with us you can share your joy and pain

We will only love
we will never judge
never be afraid to speak

Your mother’s pride and joy
your daddy’s love
you…our only daughter

It sneaks up on you
sight unseen
sound unheard
like a wolf stalking its prey
suddenly you hear the leaves
you see the shadows
a flash of light hits the long forgotten
there before you lies something familiar
a moment of recollection
a tiny piece of remembrance, that, like death
comes without warning
inundating the heart with raw emotion
flooding your thoughts
it lingers only for a moment
then disappears
returning to that realm of chance
that hidden place in the subconscious
a place where the past is encoded
only to be deciphered at random will
the future soon to dwell
the now a memory

My eyes cast a watchful gaze
on the mountains tall and fierce
Through howling winds and blanketing snow
the darkness my eyes pierce
My pack, we cover many miles
thousands in a lifetime
Most of those through rugged terrain
and very precarious times
The wisdom of the land
courses through my mind and veins
It is crystal clear like mountain streams
after every torrential rain
In the dark of night our howl you’ll hear
echoing a melodic chorus
Our instincts guide us to our pray
through prairie and lush green forest
Those paw prints in your yard right there,
yes, we were there last night
I was there unheard and certainly unseen
until the early morning light
Next time you hear the moonlit cry
of me and my countless kin
Just know we’re not so different you and I,
fording the journey of this life from the beginning to the end

It’s hard to write lately
so much on my mind
yet difficult to express
or is it just not interesting
my own thoughts not interesting to me
that’s ironic, maybe I’m bored with myself
even now as I sit and write and think
I am lost
a huge chess game
no clue where to move
not sure if I’m the king or the pawn
the doctor or the patient
how do I figure such things out

A simple smile is not so simple
a picture only a ripple
lives around us so very fragile
a moments impact intangible

A kind word not so light
the north star on a dark night
heavy heart or clouded mind
a moments clarity helped to find

Life unlived left unto fate
a wicked world full of hate
a warming thought giving peace
a chance to revel, the torment ceased

A hearty handshake or reassuring look
easing the pain of a heart on the hook
a gentle voice calling in the fog
guiding you from the mire of the bog

Life is easier when you’re not alone
soul and companionship like dog and bone
peace of mind a welcome reprieve
the harsh cold touch of solitude relieved

A simple smile is not so simple
a picture only a ripple
lives around us so very fragile
a moments impact intangible

I find it interesting in these times of political correctness that people have become so blase to the language changes of, not just local communities, but the U.S. in general.

Take for instance the term “illegal immigrant”.  Immigrant from the Merriam-Webster dictionary means “a person who comes to a country to take up permanent residence”.  Thus illegal immigrant means they have done this against the law.  According to the “political correctness police”, we are no longer allowed to refer to them as illegal aliens or illegal immigrants.  They are referred to as undocumented immigrants.

One of the most recent offensives from the language Nazi’s is the disbanding of the term “war on terror”.  The word terrorist simply means someone who uses terror to achieve certain goals.  The war on terror implies that we are fighting to prevent terrorism.  Now we learn from Obama that we are no longer in a “war on terror”, we are in the midst of “overseas contingency operations”.  What does that mean exactly?  Also, we are no longer fighting “terrorists”.  We are engaged in “overseas contingency operations” with “enemy combatants”.  What the hell?

The downward spiral of language into the abyss referred to as political correctness leaves us in a precarious situation.  Feminism and feminist are terms conveying power for the female sex.  However, as I found on http://www.vdare.com/fulford/how_to_write.htm, you will never hear a doctor who performs abortions referred to as an abortionist.  I’ll also wager that you will never hear the pro-choice movement referred to as abortionism.  Both terms, though, are accurate descriptions of the practice and the movement.

It is all about what is pleasing to the ear and casts the most positive light on the subject at hand.  Homosexuality is referred to as an “alternative lifestyle”.  Killers and believers in judicially imposed capital punishment will somehow become anti-life proponents, much more aesthetically pleasing than murder, death penalty, or capital punishment.  Drug abuse will be referred to as pharmaceutical overindulgence.  When does the madness end?

We need to get back to reality.  Words have meanings and those meanings don’t change just because we don’t like them.  Problems are what they are regardless of how they are labeled.  People are who they are regardless of how you refer to them.  Life is what it is regardless of the picture we paint.  I am still white, not a man of no color.  I am still heterosexual, not a non-alternative lifestyle participant.  I believe terrorists need to be dealt with before they take another innocent life, but I’m not a war monger.

A rose by any other name is still a rose!

Has anyone ever noticed the constant fear mongering in America.  You can take the news and go back years and years and you will find that there is always something for us to be scared of.  I’m going to attempt to avoid politics, so forgive me if it pops up here and there.  Currently, the big topic is global warming.  It doesn’t matter that the Earth goes through climate cycles of it’s own accord and direction, we have to fear the carbon “footprint” we leave.  We have to live with the knowledge that there is always some country somewhere trying to develop nuclear capabilities.  That doesn’t limit them to weapons, it may just be nuclear power, but does anyone remember Chernobyl?  Swine flu…enough said.  Last year it was avian flu and before that the Hanta virus.  What about 1999?  Will your computer survive the rollover to 2000?  Oh no!!!  Did you have a problem?  I didn’t.  There was a sticker on every computer in every corporate building and hospital that said Y2K ready.  Did every household in the country go and have their computer checked for Y2K compliance.  I bet not.  I didn’t.  Yet it rolled flawlessly into the new millennium.  Cell phones supposedly contribute brain cancer or something of the sort.  Has their use declined?  No.  It has continued to expand.  How about acne, old age, hair products, foods, etc…  They have something to help treat acne although, because the teenage body is going through a lot of changes, they can’t cure it.  Oh no, acne is so bad…he/she won’t like me.  There are so many creams to treat old age that a 90 year old woman dies looking 70.  Great for her.  Did it enhance how she lived her life?  No.  It just made her worry about looking old.  We are now going through a big movement into organic foods.  What do you get out of organic foods that you don’t get from non-organics?  Nothing but the idea that you aren’t eating pesticides, hormones,  and other chemicals.  However, they still have to treat the organics for disease and to prevent infestation.  Oh yeah, did I mention that most people wash their vegetables before they cut or cook them?  How many times have you been told that sugar is bad for you?  So they trade sugar with alternative sweeteners, most of which have some warning about what they have done to animals in clinical studies and what you have to be afraid of.  How many animals have been adversely affected by pure sugar?  I would venture to say not many.  How about baldness.  “Men, do you worry about thinning hair”?  No I didn’t, but now that you mention it.  Is my wife/husband/girlfriend/boyfriend cheating on me.  Probably not, but….now that you mention it.  Is your water clean?  Probably, I haven’t ever gotten sick because of it, but you know…now that you mention it.  That commercial aimed at women that says,” have you ever said to yourself “I feel fat, or I feel bloated today”;  are you serious?  Somewhere out there, there is some 13 year-old girl on her first cycle saying, “ yeah, I feel fat or bloated.  I should lose some weight.”  No she shouldn’t!!!  She should enjoy being a kid, a teenager.  Anything but having to worry about what people think of her because of TV ads or magazines!  We have to be concerned with how much we drive, walk, have sex, use computers, or how much paper we use.  When you are prescribed a medication, you have to worry just as much about the side effects as you do about the reason for the medication.  What is the point of all this?  The point is, we get enough worry out of everyday real life problems without having to worry about all the stupid things that are thrown at us on a daily basis.  We don’t need the added drama that society feels it needs to feed us every day.  Are you getting enough from your news?  I thought so…but now that you mention it!
